Sci-Fi Character Battle: Bellamy Blake, Waverly Earp, Hope Mikaelson, Michael Burnham, Dutch, and Carol Peletier!
Welcome to the Sci-Fi Character Battle, a new CarterMatt Feature for the month of August! Over the past several years, sci-fi is a genre that has become so diverse and also so fantastic. You’ve got shows about space travel, zombies, time-travel, angels, demons, mermaids, artificial intelligence, and a whole lot more! Within this series, we’re going to do our part to spotlight many of the best characters within the genre … and then ask which ones you like the best.
Below, you can see the third batch of six characters (out of 24) we’re spotlighting in Round One of the polling tournament! We’ll be posting the final six tomorrow, so be on the lookout for that. We’ll be sharing what makes each character special and then there is a poll for you to vote for your favorite! Two characters will move on to round two.
Voting Rules – Voting will remain open until Monday, August 12 at 3:00 p.m. Pacific time; the advancing characters will move on two round 2, which will begin on August 13. You can vote however often you’d like; for more technical information if you’re having issues, check out the bottom of this article.
Bellamy Blake, The 100 – Kudos to Bob Morley for finding such an incredible way to bring this complicated character to life. What we’ve seen of Bellamy through six seasons is someone who is adaptable, but also someone who carries with him difficult burdens. He has allies and he does what he can to survive and although it’s not always the right way to go about it, he usually finds his way through to do the right thing.
Michael Burnham, Star Trek: Discovery – Burnham is one of the perfect vessels in which to view the CBS All Access’ version of the Star Trek world. Through two seasons we’ve seen her when the going gets tough, but also in situations where we’ve understood more of who she is and where she comes from. It takes a very specific person to make it in Starfleet!
Waverly Earp, Wynonna Earp – Waverly’s journey has been constantly refreshing from the very start of this series. It’s because of her adventurous spirit, her will to fight, and her relationship with Nicole Haught that so many want to root for her. How can someone so wrapped up in angels and demons also be so relatable?
Hope Mikaelson, Legacies – Hope doesn’t remember a time where her life was something other than chaos. Think about who her father is, where she came from, or how she lives now within Mystic Falls and the Salvatore School. Moving into the second season, her big challenge may be one simply about memory.
Carol Peletier, The Walking Dead – There are survivors of the zombie apocalypse, and then there’s Carol. Think about what she’s gone through since the first season and where she is now — she’s as resourceful as they come and there’s something so heartfelt about seeing her open up and find a larger home in this world.
Yalena ‘Dutch’ Yardeen, Killjoys – One of the most dynamic and passionate characters within the world of the Syfy series, and someone who’s definitely been through it in this final season already! Dutch is determined and innovative — she’s a hunter, a fighter, and a gateway to all of the fantastic stories told here.
