Victoria season 4 renewal discussions reportedly underway
According to a report coming in via TVWise, there are discussions going on at the moment between the network and production company Mammoth Screen for more new episodes. It feels like something that is going to happen, but also not something that isn’t going to come together right away. That goes in line perfectly with some comments that star Jenna Coleman made on Graham Norton’s radio show, where she claimed that Victoria may not be back until either 2020 or 2021; more than likely, she will have other jobs during the break.
Is it going to be a bummer to have to wait that long for more Victoria? Sure, and here in America the wait will feel even longer. (Due to a weird scheduling quirk, we actually received the third season in the United States earlier than it ended up airing overseas.) We’re excited to see what the latest batch of episodes feels like, and aging up the characters for it makes a certain degree of sense. One of the larger questions that has been out there has been whether or not Coleman would be able to keep playing Queen Victoria as the show jumped forward in time — she is only 33 and Victoria isn’t operating on a schedule where every season consists of only a year of the Queen’s life.
Why do we think Victoria could still have a few years left, provided the parties involved want to keep making them? It has a thing or two to do with the fact that there are so many people behind the scenes who seem to love the material, and also that the show has broad appeal — this is one of those stories that is appreciated all over the world, and not just in the United Kingdom. Not all series on ITV or rival network BBC One have the same incredible amount of staying power.
