The Rookie: Afton Williamson names actor, crew member behind harassment
Over the weekend, The Rookie actress Afton Williamson dropped some shocking news in terms of her departure from the show. As it turns out, she made the decision to leave following alleged misconduct from both a crew member and also an actor who worked behind the scenes.
Following the time of her accusations, ABC head Karey Burke came out the morning and confirmed that an investigation was underway. However, she could not offer up many specifics in terms of when it could be completed or what is coming on the other side of that.
Now, Williamson has updated her story forward, and named the two people she is accusing of improper conduct behind the scenes: Recurring guest star Demetrius Grosse and Hair Department Head Sally Nicole Ciganovich. Williamson claimed in her previous post that production did not take action against Ciganovich, despite complaints, until after the accusation of assault at the end of the season. She also claimed that she was asked to film a scene with Grosse even after speaking to producers about the harassment.
The alleged actions of some of these people are terrible enough, but then there’s also the accusations that the producers of the show did not do anything in order to change the culture behind the scenes.
The Rookie season 2 is going to be premiering on ABC this fall. This is still a developing story, and we will have more news as it comes out. Williamson was originally asked to come back, with assurances that things would be better. Yet, she did not feel as though that would be the case after the investigation was not even underway at the time of a meeting before production.
