Supernatural season 15: Jensen Ackles not closing door on revival

Supernatural season 15

Earlier today, we wrote that the upcoming Supernatural series finale doesn’t have to be the end of the road. Why is that? Well, it has a little bit of something to do with the fact that revivals are everywhere these days and shows like this one have been able to go on for so long in their current form.

So, with that in mind, we cannot say that we’re shocked at all with some of what Jensen Ackles had to say on the subject of the future today. Speaking (per TVLine) while at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour, he passed along the following message when contemplating the idea of saying goodbye now … and also keeping things open for the future:

“It’s a long journey that I don’t think is ever going to be over … I think we’re just going to go away for a while. For how long, I don’t know … I’m not ever ready to close doors or burn bridges. I think that’s foolish. Am I saying there’s something in the works? No. Am I open to having a conversation in the future? What’s the harm in that?”

Our feeling on the subject is pretty simple: If it’s clear that there is interest in more Supernatural a couple of years down the road, we could envision The CW considering bringing Jensen, Jared Padalecki, and more back for some sort of TV movie or limited series — it wouldn’t be something identical to the original series, but if everyone wanted to do it and the belief was that it would be profitable, why wouldn’t everyone consider it? The only complication would come via The CW’s own history of not really airing these sort of things. We could see other networks or even WarnerMedia’s HBO Max streaming service wanting the idea for their own, but we’d really hope that a revival would stay firmly at The CW … it’s where it belongs after so many years.

Of course, we also recognize fully that it’s silly that we’re spending this much time talking about a revival when there are still so many episodes to go of the original series itself.

Do you think a Supernatural revival is even considering right now?
