For everyone out there clamoring for Black Lightning to finally enter the Arrowverse, we come bearing some fantastic news!
In a post on Instagram, Cress Williams himself confirmed that we will be seeing his title character jump over for the Crisis on Infinite Earths crossover event, meaning that all six superhero shows on The CW will have some sort of presence. While it doesn’t seem like there will be a formal Black Lightning episode within the event, Cress’ presence guarantees that this will be even more of a crossover than we first realized. This goes along with the news that Superman and Lois Lane are both returning, let alone that Brandon Routh is going to suit up as Superman again for the first time since Superman Returns so many years beforehand.
For the past couple of years, the commentary around Black Lightning was that the show was set up to be its own separate thing rather than a show that took part in some of the big superhero events. Yet, there have been references to other Arrowverse shows on it before, and we think that this end result is a product of so many people just asking for it to happen. Even if it’s just a small appearance of an episode or two, that should be enough to make people happy that this is finally happening — and it’s also happening at the perfect time.
Think about things in this sense: Arrow is ending with season 8 and there’s no telling when some of the other superhero shows will end. There would be no other occasion where Black Lightning could turn up and it would be anywhere near as epic. This is going to be fun, and there will be a reason to celebrate to go along, of course, with all of the drama and danger that comes from a villain like the Anti-Monitor running amok.
The Crisis On Infinite Earths event is going to kick off near the end of the year, and all signs point towards it running into January. The event will be broken up in between by a holiday hiatus.
