‘The Mindy Project’ scores 24-episode order courtesy of new annoucnement
If you are a major fan of “The Mindy Project,” here is some more good news coming in for you right now: you are about to get a whole lot more of it.
On Friday, Fox announced that they are going to be adding two more episodes to what was already a 22-episode order, meaning that this show is going to have the total episode count of an established hit like “Grey’s Anatomy” or even another show on the network in “New Girl.” The other good news? There are going to be a good many episodes that end up running consecutively. Thanks in part to the Presidential election (and “The X Factor” next week), there aren’t too many episodes of the show airing at the moment. However, this does mean that many episodes later on (such as in early next year) will have an opportunity to air against repeats, which is a nice opportunity to pick up some new viewers who could become loyal fans. In particular, the months of March and early April tend to be a wasteland for major networks in between the February and May sweeps periods.
Fox is obviously showing with this move that they are big believers in Mindy Kaling and what she brings to the table. Now, the only real test remaining is just seeing whether or not the show can build on what is already a very strong start moving forward. There are some characters that need further development, even if the show has a great foundation and its tone works perfectly following another female-led show featuring a quirky star in Zooey Deschanel.
