Will Outlander have a shorter hiatus between season 5, season 6?
Yet, it’s not lost to us that Outlander season 5 will be premiering at least 14 months after season 4, and it could be even longer than that — think in terms of 15 or 16 months if it premieres in either February or March of next year. That is a long time to wait between seasons, and that brings us to the question at the heart of this article: Are we going to have to wait that long ago now?
In the end, some of the decision-making here will come down to the cast, the production crew, the studio Sony, and also Starz … but we’re hopeful that the Droughtlander will be shorter this time around for a couple of reasons.
Season 6 is already confirmed – For most of season 4 filming, there was no official confirmation that we were going to have either a season 5 or season 6. Things are a little different now. With season 6 already on the books, the writers can have that in their back pocket … and they can also prepare for it a little bit earlier. There’s not as much stuff on the business end to take care of leading into the new season and that alone is exciting.
Season 5 is filming one episode less than season 4 – With only 12 episodes instead of 13, Outlander is likely shaving at least a couple of weeks, if not more, from its total production time. That also means a shorter post-production time and Starz can get seasons on the air a little faster. Even if the cast have a few months off following season 5 wrapping up filming, they could still be back at work next year for a little bit of a faster turnaround.
Our hope is that season 6 will launch in either spring or summer 2021 — though nothing is assured and there are a LOT of things that can happen. Luckily, Outlander fans are a patient bunch — that has been proven time and time again!
