Is John Noble leaving Elementary, and is Morland Holmes dead?
One of the things that happens often when you think about iconic villains is that they have to do something to prove how evil they are. Sometimes, the best way to do that is to remove a major character from the equation. Odin and his people (including some of Morland’s) ended up getting one over on him. Morland’s network may have been powerful, but there are some forces that even he cannot properly withstand. A part of the problem is that Odin has money, influence, and also that genuinely-terrifying belief that he can change the world. These are the worst sort of adversaries to do battle with since they can alter the course of everything and still think that they are right to do so.
The moment that Sherlock saw Bell at the end of the episode, he knew something was wrong and it didn’t take too long to figure out who it was. Morland was dead, and we have to say goodbye to the wonderful John Noble. While he was not a longtime series regular on the show, Noble did do a great job in his various appearances as Morland. He brought a lot of style and substance to the role, and few play the sort of moral ambiguity that Morland needs to have quite like John. We’ll miss him, though really we’ll miss the whole show given that there are just two episodes left.
Aside from Morland Holmes, Sherlock had a number of other objectives and missions that he needed to accomplish. That included going to Gregson and admitting to him that he had kept a lot of information from him when it comes to his investigation into Odin. It’s clear that Sherlock and Gregson are going to have to use as much discretion as possible to ensure that nothing gets hacked or exposed — basically, he needs to ensure that everyone is safe.
