Is Siren renewed for season 3, canceled? Premiere date hopes
Let’s go ahead and eliminate any suspense you have over the show’s future — Siren will be coming back for a season 3. That was confirmed earlier this season, much to the surprise of no one. While the ratings for the second season may be down versus what the show was scoring the first time around, it’s still one of the larger hits that Freeform has. We don’t get the sense that they want to see the show go anywhere in the near future, even though we imagine it’s a tad costlier than some of the other series that they have. All of those mermaid effects will do that.
With the show’s future secured, the next order of business comes in determining when season 3 will premiere? Freeform has a pattern with a lot of their scripted shows and it goes a little bit like this: Get new episodes on the air as soon as humanly possible, provided that it doesn’t compromise quality. The network recognizes that a lot of its viewers are young, and more likely to navigate away from some of their shows if they are off the air too long. They have to find a way to compensate for that however they can, and that includes making sure seasons premiere within about a year from each other. Given that season 2 for Siren premiered in late January, that’s the window that you should expect season 3. We’re looking at another split-season again most likely; doing this enables the show to premiere a little bit earlier, and it gives Freeform a chance to fill up more of the year with programming and buzz.
As for what a Siren season 3 could look like, the mermaids are going to face more trouble than ever before. We’ve seen them facing starvation, oil companies and low fertility the past 2 seasons, but there is so much more material to mine from this story and that’s not even factoring in that the military knows mermaids exist!
