Supernatural season 15: Creator on watching series say goodbye

Supernatural season 13 poster

Supernatural season 15 is the final one for the series on The CW, and that means many things to many people. For Eric Kripke, it means a lot given that he is the one who started it all. While he may not be involved anymore in the day-to-day production of the series, he does hold a ton of affection for it and it’s hard to say goodbye.

Speaking in a new Reddit AMA mostly about his new show The Boys, Kripke described some of how he’s feeling at the moment, and how he’s proud of the ventures of his cast. That includes Jared Padalecki and Always Keep Fighting and then Misha Collins with GISHWHES:

I’m a little bit emotional about it. It was comforting to always have that show there. And I’m so f—ing proud of the amount of good those actors and that fandom have put into the world. Proud of the show, sure, but way more proud of AKF, or GISH, or the million other things. As for a stand-out memory, hmm. Nothing crazy, but here’s a factoid. In the pilot, we explored adding James Bond style switches to the Impala dash — to release oil, or salt. We might have even shot it. But then we realized that was stupid.

It is hilarious to hear about some early plans for Supernatural and how they didn’t pan out, especially since the show has done so many other crazy things over the years. Yet, a lot of it has worked because there have been outside forces interacting with Sam and Dean. If the Winchesters were to go full-crazy themselves, then it would take away the grounded nature of the show. That was the right call, and we do hope that Kripke at least has some involvement in the finale — even if it’s just getting to have some conversations with the current showrunners. (It’s complicated, given that Kripke has an overall deal now at another studio.)
