In a new post on her Instagram Stories, series star Ellen Pompeo confirmed that she filmed her first scene “eating ice cream in bed” with Giacomo Gianniotti (Andrew DeLuca), which is a pretty easygoing way to start off a season! Maybe we should consider this the calm before the storm given that there are some hard times to come for Meredith and DeLuca both. Remember what went on with the insurance fraud at the end of last season, and how Andrew was willing to go to jail and/or risk his whole career in order to ensure that Meredith didn’t face any prosecution over what happened?
We don’t foresee that season 16 is starting off with these problems in the rear view mirror, but this ice-cream scene could be a brief break in the action. Meredith expressed confidence at the end of season 15 that her legal team would be able to make a compelling argument when it comes to why she decided to do what she did when it comes to falsely using her insurance. She thought that it was both a life-or-death and moral decision in that moment … and something worth risking her whole career for.
As for where we see season 16 taking Meredith and DeLuca’s relationship, we imagine that the primary question is just how serious it will become? They have been together for a little while now, but not so long that know everything about one another. There are still many different things that they need to learn and this season could play some of those out.
