MasterChef season 10 episode 14 video: Let everyone eat cake!

Coming up on MasterChef season 10 episode 14 this week, you’re going to see one of the most difficult challenges out there. Everyone either has probably made a cake at some point in their lives or knows someone who had, but that doesn’t mean that the end result is either tasty or good. Beyond that, there’s another layer here to consider in that most cakes that end up being made here are the ones that come out of boxes.

On Wednesday night’s new episode of the series, there is no cake box mix. Everything that is being made is being made from scratch and the challenge for the remaining home cooks is going to be finding a way in order for it to be perfectly executed. Cakes aren’t the sort of thing that you can do a quick do-over on since it takes so much time to bake them and while you can bake up a few extras, there’s a certain point where you just run out of time and you have to roll with what is right in front of you.

At the crux of this challenge will be the remaining home cooks each picking a different type of cake to make for the judges — there’s everything from carrot cake to cheese cake in the mix! From there, they will do their best to replicate the sample cake of their given style. That means working in order to make sure that the appearance is great, but so is the flavor on the inside. It’s challenging to get just one component here right, let alone all of them.

Separate from the competition itself, we would imagine that this is one of the toughest parts of the show to judge as a whole. Can you imagine the sugar rush that Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Aaron Sanchez will have on the other side? It has to be extreme.

Where we feel for these contestants the most is this: The idea of putting their absolute all into the cakes, only to learn in the middle of the judging that something is raw or not perfectly done. They may not be able to know all the problems until the cake is complete.
