While there is a tradition in Great Britain for many series to not last an extremely long period of time, Vera remains proof that there are exceptions to every single rule. This is a series that is entering its tenth(!) season on the air, and there is a chance that it could go on for a little while still. It’s really all about the interest among the cast and the interest viewers have in more stories featuring one Vera Stanhope — and that hasn’t faded just yet. One of the things that we believe has aided Vera over the years is the fact that they do so few episodes a year — that makes it so that whenever the show comes back, it feels like an event and it’s easy for viewers to stay up to date. That’s a little more difficult with shows that do larger seasons of 13 episodes or more, especially in America; things start to move towards a tipping point where there are too many episodes and nobody can keep up.
While you probably will not see Vera season 10 on the air for months on end, you can relish in the fact that filming is already gearing up for the home stretch. In a recent post on Twitter, the show’s official account noted that they were at the halfway point in production — meaning that now, they’re past that. We will see filming done before we get too deep into the fall and from there, it’s about editing these episodes together and promoting them properly.
Creatively, we think that the chief concern with a show like Vera is quite simple: Just find a way to make each episode feel a little bit different than the one that comes before it. If you can do that, you are producing a quality show that viewers will want to stick with. We just assume it’s more challenging ten seasons in when there are so many different things that you have already done.
