Vera season 10 renewal: Should it happen at ITV?

As we inch closer to the season 9 finale airing on ITV this weekend, it does feel like the proper time to ask: Should there be a Vera season 10? Is that something to hold out hopes for over the next several months?

At the moment, we don’t think there’s any reason to be pessimistic about the future of this series — let’s go ahead and start there. Vera has become over the years one of the network’s biggest staples — it is a show that they can plug in and deliver big ratings for about a month or so, often without a whole lot of promotion leading up to it. It’s just a quintessential British television program with good acting, interesting mysteries, and an iconic central character. There’s no reason for them to end this show unless the cast involved decides that they want to move on.

We do at least know that there are early discussions about bringing the show back around. Speaking in a new interview (via Irish News), series star Brenda Blethyn had the following to say about coming back and tackling the part once more:

I mean it’s always wait and see. They’re talking about it, but I’ve just got to get my breath back first. It’s like a feast and you’ve stuffed yourself with it – ‘please, I want nothing more, Vera, please go away.’ But then you get hungry again…

If a Vera season 10 happens, we would say to not expect too many differences from season 9. Filming will likely begin later this year for a premiere in early 2020. We don’t necessarily think that this is a show that will go on forever, but there is potential for there to be a few more seasons. The fun thing here is that even in the event the show does ever wrap up, we do still think that there’s a chance the series could come back for a movie or something else down the line. As long as Vera operates under the same sort of framework that it is right now, it’s hard to really envision a scenario in which it ever goes completely away unless the actors just come out and say that they don’t want to do it anymore.

If you love Vera and continue to want to see the series shine, the best thing that you can keep doing is watching the show and telling your friends and family to do the same! Viewership is the lifeblood of this series, as it is with many others that are out there.
