Good Omens season 2 possible at Amazon; it’s up to Neil Gaiman
While Good Omens was originally set to be a limited series for the service, we know quite well at this point that there is a tendency for “limited series” to become anything but. Just take a look at Big Little Lies, one of the more notable examples out there. There are also others, including True Detective, that have aired more seasons but in a proper anthology format.
While at TCA today, Amazon confirmed that Good Omens performed very well for them upon its release earlier this year, but they also made it clear that it would be up to Neil Gaiman. Here is what their co-chief of TV Vernon Sanders had to say on the subject (via Deadline)
“We’re lucky to have an ongoing relationship with Neil … We’re so excited about how Season 1 has done for us. The notion has come up about whether we can revisit that world. It’s in Neil’s hands now but we’d love to do it. We’re finding that it just takes a little time, perhaps, in the case of Neil. But whatever he wants to do, we’re interested in.”
The biggest obstacle standing in the way of more Good Omens may just be finding the time in order to bring most important parties back together to do more — let alone finding the proper material in order to do it. A lot of people out there loved season 1 of the show and creatively, we imagine that this has to be enormously gratifying. Yet, at the same time you have to also understand that sometimes, it’s better off leaving viewers wanting more. You don’t want to create a situation where viewers are disappointed or that a second season somehow takes away from what the series had originally. It’s a delicate line that you have to walk if you are a show like this.
Nonetheless, this is a situation that we’re going to take a look at once again over the next few months.
