Outlander season 5: What does ‘early 2020’ really mean?
While on the surface this news is frustrating, you should also remember this — this isn’t the worst-case scenario for when the series could be coming back onto Starz. For evidence of what that could’ve been, you don’t have to look any further than the idea of a late spring launch.
In the past, Outlander seasons have premiered three or four months after production wraps. How does that apply here? While there is no confirmed time in which filming will conclude, we would believe it to be before we get too deep into the holiday season. If filming ends in November/early December, it is conceivable to think that a late February or early March premiere could be feasible.
Why not January? Well, consider this — if Starz was going to be premiering the show in January, why not just say that the TCA Summer Press Tour panel yesterday? After all, they did note that this is when Power would be airing for the second half of its final season. That could be a batch of anywhere between six to eight episodes, depending on how the network structures the release.
If we were to conjure up a theory right now about how the network is planning to release Outlander season 5, it’s this: It will arrive once Power concludes. While it would be cool for Starz to put their two most-popular shows on the air at the same time, there’s no reason to think they will do that. They want to be able to make the most out of their hits and also use them to support other shows still looking for an audience. Separating the two also keeps some subscribers around longer.
The great news is clear that you’re going to be getting more Outlander before we get too late into the new year. The bad news, however, is that you may still be waiting another month or two past the middle of January to see it happen.
What month do you want to see Outlander season 5 premiere in?
