We were so excited to see just who Wade ended up chosen, mostly because he is so different than almost every judge who we’ve seen. He’s an athlete and he carries with that a different understanding and perspective on talent. He may appreciate more athletic acts than some of the other people who we’ve seen on the show over the years. (A lot of times, it’s easy to predict who the Golden Buzzers are going to go to — singers, or to be specific, young singers.)
With V. Unbeatable, Wade did choose to give the buzzer to an athletic act — one that is different than almost any other. There is a dance component to this, but then you add to this the way that they move around the stage. They are this season’s Zurcaroh in a lot of ways — one that is as intense as they come and intent on showing you things that you have never seen before. Some of the footwork and the spins that we saw tonight were next level. About twenty seconds into the act, we started to think that this was Golden Buzzer worthy. It was about so much more than just seeing some people move around the stage and dance. Think about the stuff with the chairs!
This was, bar none, one of the best acts we’ve seen of this kind ever. The audience response to it was palpable, especially on a night where a lot of other people ended up disappointed. Dwyane related to the sacrifice and the dedication that this took. We also gotta say that there’s also nothing we love more than seeing a group get a Golden Buzzer and they get so into the celebration.
