We know that NCIS season 17 filming is currently underway, but it also feels like one of its biggest storylines is being kept under a heavy veil.
At this point, it’s been confirmed that Cote de Pablo is coming back as Ziva — there’s no secret around that. Yet, there are some other secrets, including why she is back and also where she has been for the better part of the past few years. It’s for the sake of secrecy that CBS and producers are choosing to keep her as MIA as possible — at least for now, if she’s even been on set yet.
What we can tell you, per the latest Instagram Story from Wilmer Valderrama, is that the cast is being told to keep many secrets for the time being about what they’re up to. It seems like they’re excited for the premiere, so that should give you reasons aplenty to also be excited. There are so many episodes of NCIS filmed every year that it would be easy for a lot of them to bleed together. This seems to be an example of one that will stand out for many years to come.

Wilmer’s story also presents a first look of Brian Dietzen on set as Jimmy Palmer — earlier today, Dietzen teased his return to set with a post on Twitter, which you can see below. Actors often film at different times, so it’s not a surprise that he would arrive to set later than some of his other fellow cast members.
Remember that NCIS season 17 will premiere on CBS this September — we do think that there will be some official teases on Cote’s return and more over the next few weeks. Because we are still so far away, everyone may be keeping their cards close to the vest right now. The fact that filming is underway is at least one more box to check off before the premiere.
