Mehcad Brooks leaving Supergirl, James Olsen role during season 5
In a new report today via Entertainment Weekly, it was confirmed that the actor is ready to move forward after playing his role since the start of the series. This was Brooks’ decision to depart, as he is looking to try out new feature film roles and also work on developing a new cable series. With Brooks’ departure, David Harewood (J’onn), Chyler Leigh (Alex), and of course Melissa Benoist (Kara) are the remaining major players from the very first season of the show.
While Mehcad may be leaving for now, executive producers Robert Rovner and Jessica Queller make it clear in a new statement that you will have a chance to see the character again down the line:
“We love Mehcad and we’re sad to see him leave the show as a series regular, but we’re excited for both Mehcad and James Olsen’s future … He’ll always be a part of our Supergirl family and we look forward to James returning to National City at some point to visit his sister and his super friends.”

James’ sister Kelly Olsen is set to be a major part of the season after her debut last year and, to go along with that, you’re also going to have a chance to see Andrea Brooks play a larger role as Eve after previously recurring in the role. New episodes are going to debut this fall and we know that there’s a lot the writers are throwing at you. There’s the mystery of Leviathan, there’s a new costume for Kara, and eventually, all of this is going to culminate in the arrival of Crisis on Infinite Earths. We recognize that this is not going to be the end of this Supergirl season but, on the other side of what happens there, the multiverse may never quite be the same. As a matter of fact, we’d bank on big changes.
