The Last Kingdom season 4 filming update: How far along is it?
While we’re still far away from when Netflix is going to be making an announcement, we’ve now got word that the cast and crew are about at the halfway point in production. That was confirmed in a post on Twitter recently by Adrian Bouchet (which CarterMatt has for you to see below) and that gives us a sense that filming will be done before the end of the year … but that doesn’t mean that we’ll see the further adventures of Uhtred-son-of-Uhtred at some point this year. There tend to be fairly long waits between seasons of this show and we’re expecting new episodes within the first half of 2020. The most important thing is that Netflix continues to show a commitment to telling these stories and keeping new episodes on the air since this show has so many more stories to tell.
As for some of what we’re expecting to see throughout The Last Kingdom season 4, a good bit of it could be geared around getting a chance to see an escalation of Saxon conflict and also even more of the larger world. While this show and Vikings may be different stories with unique paths and arcs, we do think that there is one central thing that is largely binding the two together — we’re seeing more and more of the world over time and it’s one of the reasons that we love both of these shows as much as we do. With improvements in technology or simply just larger conquests, it leads the way for us to better understand surrounding territories.
The Last Kingdom has a chance to raise the stakes following what may be its best season to date and deliver a story that feels epic, dark, and incredibly intense. Characters are going to die and others could suffer a fate worse than death — the groundwork’s been laid already through the past few years.
Oh, and we should also mention that we wish more American viewers would be aware of this show. It has a little bit of everything that viewers stateside love, but there just isn’t the sort of awareness around it that there really should be. Tell your friends!
