The Crown season 3 premiere date coming up this fall
In a new post on Twitter, TVMoJoe confirmed via a letter to shareholders that the upcoming third season of the period drama is going to be coming this fall. The last we’d heard, it was going to be in the second half of this year. It’s nice to be able to narrow that down slightly to something at least a tad more specific, right? There will probably over the next few months something more revealed and we look forward to that — especially as someone who loves Tobias Menzies and wants to see him play Prince Philip on the show. (Also, there’s Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth — what’s not worth being excited about here?)
The third season of The Crown is one of Netflix’s biggest shows of the second half of the year now that Stranger Things 3 is out, and the biggest thing going against it is the long wait between seasons. Luckily, we don’t think that there is suddenly going to be some enormous lack of interest in a show about the history of the British Royal Family. We just hope that the wait between seasons 3 and 4 are longer because the cast members for the two of them are already in place. There shouldn’t be so long of a delay to sort out anything. We’re hoping for a wait of a year and a half, at most.
One more benefit to The Crown season 3 coming out this fall — it continues to give Netflix big entires in awards season. This show is the sort that could clean house at the Golden Globe Awards and we fully expect it to get a great deal of nominations — between it, Game of Thrones, Big Little Lies, and Stranger Things, we could have an awards-show battle for the ages on our hands. (Stranger Things is coming off of its best-reviewed season, so we are boosting its awards show odds.)
