For everyone out there who loves it when an incredible show brings on an incredible actor then this Law & Order: SVU season 21 news is right up your alley. You’re going to see Ian McShane come on board for the season premiere!

According to a report from TVLine, the Deadwood and American Gods star will be playing the role of a “a charming and high-profile media mogul who takes on Olivia Benson and the SVU squad after being accused of sexual assault.” This sounds a little bit like this they are working to take on a Roger Ailes or a Weinstein sort of figure, but given the show’s tendency to rip from the headlines and then augment things slightly, it could contain a few other different elements as well. No matter what SVU ends up doing, we think that it’s going to be an impactful story that gets things off to a great start.

Why do we think that the SVU premiere is going to deliver? For starters, this is returning showrunner Warren Leight coming back to deliver his first episode in years and we like to think that this is a chance for him and the writers to get things off to a great start. With a guest star like McShane, this is the show doing what it can in order to ensure that viewers want to start watching right away. There are a lot of casual viewers who won’t know about the showrunner change; what they will know is that a familiar face who they love from other shows is facing off with Benson. That’s a fantastic way to get this season off to a great start.

SVU season 21 is premiering on NBC when we get around to the fall, and with filming still in the early stages, we imagine that there’s going to be so much more in the way of news to share. Keep your eyes peeled for more on casting, especially since there is no word on who is going to be the new ADA just yet.
