The Resident season 3: The Enemy Within’s Morris Chestnut to appear
Per a new report coming in from TVLine, the actor is going to be appearing on the show moving forward as Dr. Barrett Cain, someone who will be a thorn in the side of some of the folks at Chastain. Yet, he’s also brilliant at what he does. Per the official character description, he is “capable of curing crippling diseases. He’s charming when he wants to be … [but also] utterly ruthless in his quest for money and power. His ability to exact swift revenge on any who oppose him will put the good doctors at Chastain in jeopardy and drive the season-long thriller arc.”

In our mind, the best way to describe Chestnut’s character is someone who looks one way and then acts another. He may make some of these doctors at Chastain believe that he is their friend and yet, find a way to completely devastate them at the same time. This is a man who Dr. Bell will probably loathe just because he presents a leadership threat. Bell loves ruling the hospital, but we think he’s developed some sympathy for the other doctors over time because of the time spent with them. Dr. Cain may not have any of that.
For Morris Chestnut, this will be a very different sort of role than any that he’s had before. He’s coming to The Resident after being one of the leads on NBC’s The Enemy Within and this is a reunion-of-sorts for him on Fox after appearing on the police series Rosewood in the past. Our hope is that this allows him to utilize all of the tools in his arsenal — he’s charming and formidable and that’s why he is so capable of getting people on his side.
