The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 episode 10 preview: Lawrence’s spotlight
This week’s episode was … experimental to say the least. It featured Elisabeth Moss in one room for almost the entirety of it, as it also told the story of June starting to crumble completely. As Moss herself explains in the video that CarterMatt has for you below, this journey for her was all about getting to this key revelation that she is going to try and get the kids out — and will do whatever it takes to make that magic happen. It’s a hard, difficult mission to execute, but perhaps that is the jumping-off point for where the story goes from here. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom before you can get back out, but in this universe there are multiple rock bottoms.
It’s one thing to have a plan; it’s another thing to execute a plan. The Handmaid’s Tale season 3 episode 10 may be the beginning for June to start putting some of these pieces into play. This is an episode that is going to feature Commander Lawrence prominently and there are questions aplenty as to what is going to become of him. He’s someone who is very much enigmatic and someone who keeps a lot of his cards close to the vest. We’ve learned a little bit about him through the past few weeks, but we know that there is still something more on the horizon.
Also, having Bradley Whitford around as a character helps. Because of the way that this show is set up, we don’t often get enormous spotlights on male characters. Lawrence is one of the exceptions this season. He’s someone with huge ties to the origins of this new world and someone with a complicated sense of morality. He could be at the center of a reckoning next week; no matter what happens, there’s a look of horror on June’s face at the end of the promo and we know that there will be more hardships for June along this path to a better tomorrow.
