Outlander, Sam Heughan, Caitriona Balfe score 2019 Saturn Awards nods

Outlander season 4

On the evening before some other nominations are announced via the 2019 Primetime Emmys, we can report a few things when it comes to another awards show and Outlander.

Today, the 2019 Saturn Awards were announced — for those unaware, this is a group that celebrates some of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror’s greatest achievements over a 12-month span. They recognize greatness that other awards shows often shun and give it some proper room in the spotlight. That’s why we were glad to see Outlander score so many nominations from them today! The show was nominated for Best Fantasy Television series, while Caitriona Balfe (Actress in a Television Series), Sam Heughan (Actor in a Television Series), Sophie Skelton (Supporting Actress in a Television Series), and Ed Speleers (Guest Actor in a Television Series) also received some love.

What do these nominations mean?

It’s more of a platform for Outlander and recognition of its greatness! There isn’t always a carryover from the Saturn Awards to other awards shows out there, but it is nice to see the series recognized for some of its many different contributions to the TV world. While we consider Richard Rankin to be a snub (especially after his landslide victory in our own Emmy Preview poll), so many other great performers are recognized, including Speleers — given how horrific a character Stephen Bonnet is, it’s nice that there are some out there able to differentiate the brilliant actor from the role that he plays.

The 2019 Saturn Awards will be announced come September 13. Come back in the morning, as we are going to have more discussion all about the Emmys, including our reaction to the first set of nominees (and also some snubs).

What do you think about Outlander getting more Saturn Awards love?

Be sure to share in the comments, and remember to come back soon for some other news all about the show.
