So how bad could things get for Danielle Rose Russell’s character? Speaking in the newest issue of TV Guide (via SpoilerTV), what Hope goes through will be “100 times worse” than she can possibly imagine. That is according to show executive producer Julie Plec, who notes that some supernatural threats could be a part of the problem. The other part, meanwhile, is the simple torment of watching some other characters move forward in their lives while they have no awareness of who she was or what she is going through.
Also in this issue, Plec notes that there will be an adventure in its own right seeing how some of the other characters discover what’s going on. This is a fascinating exercise to explore — whenever a character does realize that Hope is a missing piece in their life, we imagine that there will be a great deal of guilt to go along with that. They could feel shame over never quite realizing that someone they cared about was actually gone.
Then, there’s the issue of Malivore — who is not going anywhere in the near future. The show made a clear decision to not kill Malivore off and the idea here seems to be for them to be this show’s version of Voldemort from the Harry Potter novels. This will allow the writers an opportunity in order to build up the stakes further — and we do also love the opportunity to see the writers work with some sort of unified villain. That’s not something you often get with many other shows, which tend to alternate in and out various Big Bads over the years. This one can linger and come back at any time.
