Outlander notes: The latest Sam Heughan – Caitriona Balfe sighting

Outlander season 4

We begin this weekend edition of Outlander news with great news for anyone who loves Sam Heughan or Caitriona Balfe. The two had a chance to attend an event separate from production in the UK!

This weekend, Sam, Caitriona, and Tony McGill (Caitriona’s fiancee, an Irish music producer) were among those who attended the Audi Henley Festival today in Henley-on-Thames, England. It’s about a six-hour drive or a flight of a little more than hour away from Glasgow, so it was a considerable trip that some of the cast members made. Balfe and Heughan have had closed ties to Audi for a while, so it does make some sense for the two to make an appearance. There’s also a photo in there of Sam alongside Line of Duty star Martin Compston and we really like to pretend like Sam tried to get some information out of him about the different layers of the H mystery and what’s next on that show.

We know that Outlander filming is still going on, even in spite of cast members being somewhat scattered as of late. (Remember, not every cast member is in every episode.) Yesterday, we reported that the show will be doing some of its most public filming of the season right outside Glasgow, so we imagine that there will be a little more info that works its way out by the time we get around to 24 hours from now.

The value that comes with Sam and Caitriona continuing to attend events like this, even in spite of their busy filming schedule, is that it helps to make them feel a little more human. Production can be sometimes an insular experience in that you work long hours, often separate from much of your friends and family. Add to this doing the job for often nine months at a time. You may be well-paid and receive plenty of opportunities from it, but there are other things you give up along the way. Attending events and seeing other people just rounds out your life experience, and helps to remind you that you do still have other things going on even if you’re spending hours and days on end wearing a period costume and running through Scottish forests.

Here’s your reminder, in closing, that Outlander season 5 will likely premiere on Starz featuring Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe when we get around to early 2020. We’ll have more news on the subject soon, and we welcome all of your thoughts in the comments.
