NCIS season 17: What to expect, not expect with Cote de Pablo’s return

NCIS season 17 filming is almost here! The cast will be heading back to Los Angeles for filming following a much deserved vacation and doing everything that they can to prepare to be their characters once more. After an incredible season 16, the bar is set fairly high for season 17 to deliver something just as good, but we thing the pieces are already in place to make that happen.

So what can we actually expect to see from the show’s big return? After a summer of numerous rumors, it felt like this would be a good time to lay out some of what you can actually expect to see when the show returns, and also some of what’s unlikely.

Latest NCIS video: You can check out our NCIS video below with some thoughts on that Ziva cliffhanger! be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube so you don’t miss out on our upcoming scoop (and we will have episode reviews all season long!) and also view our NCIS playlist.

What to expect – For starters, some behind-the-scenes teases this summer to get everyone hyped for the new season! With this premiere being one of the most-anticipated episodes of the show in years, the cast is going to want to help promote the show in every way they can. We don’t know why they would need to keep Cote de Pablo’s big return a secret now that we know that she’s back?

Story-wise, expect for the premiere to pick up almost immediately following the events of the finale as Ziva tries to help Gibbs through whatever the new mission is. They can work together to take out the threat! The premiere may very well set up some events for the rest of the season, given that there is no guarantee Gibbs’ new threat has anything to do with some of the stuff we saw in season 16.

What not to expect – A Michael Weatherly return has to be up here. While it’s possible that he could sneak in and do a cameo (anything is possible given how NCIS was able to find a way to include Cote last season). Bull is already in production in New York City. He would have to fly cross-country and also have the time off from Bull to make it happen. That’s a pair of different variables that would have to work out in order for things to pan out properly.

Meanwhile, it’s also best to not set the bar too high if you are hoping that you’ll get a chance to see Cote around for multiple episodes. The press release that went out at least spring was explicit in stating only the premiere; there was no mention of her being a recurring guest star as much as we are praying to the TV Gods to make that magic happen!
