The Walking Dead season 10: Is Lauren Cohan returning?

Lauren Cohan

Is Lauren Cohan returning to The Walking Dead for season 10? If you were to ask the majority of the show’s fans, they’d collectively all tell you the same thing: They want the actress back as Maggie so that we can watch her continue to be the boss that she is! Yet, things are never quite that simple.

The obvious assumption to make is that because Cohan isn’t doing Whiskey Cavalier anymore (her show was unfortunately cancelled even though it was a lot of fun!), she will be available to come back to the AMC series. Yet, there is no deal currently in place for Maggie to return and if she comes back, it will need to be worked out financially behind the scenes first. There were some struggles when it comes to arranging a new deal for Cohan even prior to her doing Whiskey Cavalier, so we can’t guarantee that anything will get done this time around either.

What does feel clear is that show executive producer Angela Kang would like to have Lauren back. The creative department of The Walking Dead is an entirely different beast from the accounting one; they just take whatever the financial folks allow them to do and then run with it.

Speaking via Entertainment Weekly, here is some of what Kang had to say:

“I’m not sure if I can say much about it right now actually … I’ll just say that we’re working on it.”

Given that Cohan has also expressed interest in coming back to The Walking Dead, you have to hope that the stars will align and it will lead to a situation where she does manage to come back to the show in a major way. We don’t even know where Maggie is at the moment following the time jump, but there is a lot of room in order to explore that story! Given that early portions of season 10 are already written, a return wouldn’t happen in the early going. They may have to change some established plans in order to get her back board.

AMC could use Cohan’s presence to help stabilize the series’ main cast. Andrew Lincoln is already gone and, as we discuss in the video below (after you watch, subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more and check out our Walking Dead playlist), Danai Gurira could be gone at some point in the upcoming season. There are a lot of changes in play and having that source of stability is a rare comfort in a show that often focuses so much on death.

The Walking Dead season 10 will premiere this October over on AMC.
