‘The Vampire Diaries’: Ian Somerhalder still coy on ’50 Shades of Grey’ rumors

Thanks largely to the fact that he is one of the most-popular actors on TV in “The Vampire Diaries,” we have a feeling that Ian Somerhalder is probably going to be continuously asked about being in “50 Shades of Grey” until someone finally does cast the Christian Grey character. After all, he originally was the one to campaign for the role online, even though he did later try to temper off the excitement and has since stayed more or less quiet about his chances.

However, the actor was recently asked about all of the speculation again in a new interview with MrPorter.com, where he dismissed most of the talk surrounding the potential casting as mere just that: rumors. However, he did make a joke that he was going to try and transform his basement into a dungeon:

“I thought I’d get prepared, just in case,’ he quipped. ‘I think a lot of people are doing that right now!'”

Somerhalder is not the only TV actor to be potentially connected to the role, as Matt Bomer of “White Collar” fame has already been targeted himself, even if the rumors are not even remotely true. Both actors in reality already have complicated shooting schedules, and it is likely that producers for the film will end up looking for someone who not only has fewer commitments thanks to a TV show, or possibly even someone who is a little bit more of a fresh face and can get lost in the role.
