This Is Us season 4 filming underway; what’s next?

In a post on Twitter this week, series star Milo Ventimiglia first confirmed that filming for the latest batch of episodes is set to kick off in Los Angeles. Season 4 is the first of three confirmed ones ordered by NBC and our hope is that through this one, we will at least get more information to connect us to that flash-forward timeline that we saw at the end of season 3. That means learning more about how Jack eventually becomes a father and then also what’s going on when it comes to Kate’s future. Not seeing her in the future is troublesome, but after watching This Is Us for many years, we know that this show is okay with faking us out here and there.

Ventimiglia preparing for season 4 filming is also a positive sign that there is plenty more story left to tell with Jack — which is nice given how worried we’ve been about that over time. One of the potential issues that we’ve wondered about when it comes to this show is how, over time, they are going to continue to tell Jack’s story given the fact that we’ve seen so much of it already in terms of the big moments. We’ve watched him meet Rebecca, we’ve seen him in Vietnam, and we’ve seen the moments leading up to his tragic death. There are a lot of gaps that have been filled in but it seems like season 4 is going to dive more into what’s going on in terms of his early years with Rebecca and how the two inched ever closer to being the great couple and parents that they were later on in life.
