This Is Us season 4: Jennifer Morrison joins in major role

We knew that This Is Us season 4 was looking to cast a major character — we just didn’t think that they’d be getting an actress of Jennifer Morrison’s notoriety!

According to a report via TVLine, the former House and Once Upon a Time actress has been officially cast in a major recurring role on the NBC hit — however, they are not sharing any further details on the role. Consider the wheels of speculation to be turning immediately!

Of course, we have a feeling that the speculation surrounding Morrison’s role is going to be centered around Kevin Pearson. How can it now be? Earlier this year, we learned that the character of Kevin was a father, which of course means that there may be a new woman in his life — and it’s very well possible that this character is played by Jennifer. We think that she’s a strong, capable performer, and what would be so interesting is seeing what her chemistry is with whoever she ends up sharing scenes with whether it be Kevin or someone else.

Really, the best comparison we can come up with between this gig and one in Morrison’s career is when she stopped by for an arc on How I Met Your Mother. While she didn’t end up being the right person for Ted, Jennifer had a chance to come in to an established show family and offer something different — that may be the case here. If you are This Is Us, there are two priorities that you have — creativity and then also relatability. You want to give people a different sort of story every single season and beyond that, you also want to find a way to continue to surprise people at almost every turn.

This Is Us season 4 will be premiering on NBC come Tuesday, September 24 — given the timing of this announcement, we have to imagine that Jennifer is going to be making her first appearance on the show in the early going. You want to make the most of a performer of her caliber, so we wouldn’t be shocked if this is an arc that lasts for most of this season.
