Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul’s ‘project’ isn’t Better Call Saul

Better Call Saul season 4

For those hoping that the much-hyped secret project with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul was a Better Call Saul cameo or a Breaking Bad feature film, you’re probably feeling a little disappointed.

In a post on Instagram today, Paul revealed that what the two are actually working on is a new brand of Mezcal entitled Dos Hombres. Mezcal is not necessarily tequila; a fun fact here is that tequila is a type of mezcal. Anyhow, we don’t think that anyone is here to get finer details on the differences between alcoholic beverages. Instead, it’s to lament that this may be the “be sure to drink your Ovaltine” of social-media publicity stunts. Or, to be specific, this is the “be sure to drink your Mezcal” of publicity stunts. It was hugely successful in getting the attention of a ton of people … but it may have been more successful than either one of them thought, and not in a positive way.

Let’s spin things in this way — since the news of the Dos Hombres announcement came out, the main reaction is anger. Because Paul and Cranston collaborated on one of the most popular television shows in history, anyone who sees the two together is going to immediately start to speculate — that’s even more the case because of the movie rumors that it will star Paul as Jesse Pinkman post-Breaking Bad. Aaron and Bryan are smart guys, but they misfired on this one.

Is there any problem with the two guys starting a Mezcal brand? Not at all, but if we were them, we would’ve just came out with a basic announcement of it rather than something that got people’s hopes up for days before a different truth came out.

Meanwhile, tell us what you think about Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul’s collaboration, and some of the hype leading up to it, in the attached comments. (Photo: AMC.)
