The Hills: New Beginnings episode 4 preview: Is anything new?
Take, for example, the spin cycle of drama with Audrina Patridge and Justin Bobby that still isn’t ending … or that Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt are having problems with some of the relationships that are around them. A part of loving The Hills as a franchise is recognizing its excellence and also some of its repetitions — when you deal with people with this sort of social circle, there are going to be some retreads. You have to enjoy the subtleties, the little changes and evolutions that exist — even if the base tone of the show is the same.
In the end, “he said, she said” seems to be the drama that is coming in episode 4 — one that leaves at least one cast member on the defensive. You can see some more of this play out in the promo below.

How is New Beginnings performing in the ratings?
The numbers are in for the second episode airing last night on MTV, and we think that they come across as a mixed bag. The 18-49 demo ratings slipped from a 0.4 to a 0.3, and the series registered just under 600,000 total live viewers. These aren’t enormous ratings that are going to blow other cable shows out of the water, but we’ve also seen worse and there are some young people checking the show out. What we’re left to wonder is how many people are checking it out after the fact — it’s summertime, and a lot of viewers for a show like The Hills: New Beginnings would probably be inclined to set their DVRs and check it out at their own pace.
The real test of the series’ long-term viability is going to come once the ratings come out for the next few weeks — that will be when we actually see if there is some real staying power here from one week to the next.
