MacGyver season 4 filming underway; see the cast on set!
If you look below via the Instagram of series star Justin Hires (Bozer), you can see him on set alongside a number of other familiar faces, including Lucas Till (Mac), Tristin Mays (Riley), newly-promoted Levy Tran (Desi), and newcomer Henry Ian Cusick (Russ). We were curious what the former Lost / The 100 star would look like sporting his new look for the show and now, we’ve got visual evidence of that very thing. He looks ready for work as his character, though we don’t know too much about him beyond his military background and intellect. He seems to be a good new foil for Mac and someone who comes into this world with a lot of experience.
Alas, as exciting as it is to see everyone back at work, it doesn’t change the fact that you will be waiting a while to see what’s next. The season 4 premiere date isn’t scheduled until midseason 2020 (at the earliest), so the filming start time doesn’t mean that there is any change coming elsewhere. This is just the cast and crew acknowledging the benefits of being back to work and being flexible — just in case CBS does decide to order more episodes. If they don’t, the writers can put their all into these.
Even though there is a new addition in Cusick, we don’t foresee that the basic DNA of the show is going to change. This is still an action-heavy series that is all about watching Mac solve problems with his mind while fighting to save the day. It’s serious when it needs to be, but also lighthearted and comedic at other points. It’s one of those shows that throws a lot of different stuff at you throughout the season — one of the benefits of having a crew in the Phoenix Foundation who works all over the globe in order to solve problems.
While the full cast of MacGyver season 4 seems to be set, we imagine that there will be some other bits and pieces to discuss in the weeks to come. Check back to the link here throughout the rest of the summer. Filming will be continuous for the next several months.
