America’s Got Talent video: Blind singer Robert Finley performs
In the video we have for you below, you can hear Robert sing what is a bluesy performance of a surprisingly-upbeat song, one that will get your toe tapping and maybe have you dancing around the room a little bit. He also talks about his story revealing that he is a military veteran who, over time, lost his vision due to glaucoma. He’s also wanted to sing for the bulk of his life but due to circumstance, was never able to make it happen in the way in which he hoped.

Now that we’ve had a chance to hear Robert perform, we can say that this is his opportunity to make his dream come true and succeed at this beyond a shadow of a doubt. While his voice isn’t perfect, it’s got the right kind of gravel and soul to it. He comes across as a real person with experience and character in his voice — it’s the sort of thing you’d want to hear from a guy who is in his sixties who has gone through some of the stuff that he has.
There is an innate personal connection that we have to Finley, as someone who is blind in one eye and has extremely low vision in the other. One of the most important things within the blind community is having positive influences and role models — you don’t often see many people like you on television and even when you do, it’s difficult sometimes for these stories to be told properly. A lot of people, like Robert, had sight at one point in their lives and it’s a difficult transition when you lose it. What he does in this audition is he shows fearlessness — not only does he have talent, but he is taking the bull by the horns and living his life to the fullest. That’s something we should all want to do, regardless of how old we are or some of the stuff that we’ve got going on in our lives. It’s going to make all of us stronger people.
