Wynonna Earp Funko coming; season 4 Comic-Con panel details
In a post on Twitter (CarterMatt has that for you to see below), the company revealed that they are creating a limited-edition Pop figure in honor of San Diego Comic-Con this year. There will be a thousand of them released for attendees, which makes this one of the big-ticket items from the convention this year.
We do know that the limited-edition nature of the figurine is bound to be controversial, largely because SDCC is such a limited-access event in the first place and eventually, a lot of these could end up on eBay or some other retailer for tons of money — way more than the average fan has. We do get the idea of having a cool collector’s item for the convention, but the hope is that down the road, Funko releases a different version of Wynonna that is a little more prevalent and available for fans all over the world. They have been known to do this with some other SDCC exclusives over the years — it makes sure that those who have the limited edition still have something special, but it doesn’t deprive others of an opportunity to have one of the characters that they love. We say all of this as a Funko collector ourselves for a few different Pop figures, and someone who just likes to have them to express fandom rather than just keeping them in a box and retaining their value.
Hopefully, Funko will also release some figures for a number of the other core Wynonna Earp characters — think Waverly, Haught, and Doc, for starters.
Will there be a Wynonna Earp panel at SDCC this year?
The short answer to that is “yes,” though there isn’t too much information out there in terms of details just yet. This panel will help set the stage for production to begin in early 2020. The plan, thanks to the big news earlier this week, is for season 4 of the series to launch on Syfy/Space in the summer of 2020 — two years (give or take) after the third season came out.
