Is America’s Got Talent new tonight on NBC? What to expect
In a way, you can argue that the episode tonight is “new” — if nothing else, there will be footage packaged together for it in a different way than before. However, much of this footage is actually old. This show tonight is a highlight reel of some of the best auditions that we’ve seen so far this season, and it’s a chance to catch up if you’ve missed some of the other two-hour episodes that have aired so far this summer.

As for why NBC is doing this, it’s a simple result of this being two days removed from the Fourth of July and they don’t want to run the risk of losing viewers. We get it — America’s Got Talent is their summer cash cow. It’s one of their most popular shows of the entire year, in fact, and they don’t want to run the risk of shedding viewers because people are either traveling somewhere or getting ready for the festivities.
What happens when America’s Got Talent returns?
More talent! The final audition episode is airing on NBC next week, and that will be when Julianne Hough uses her Golden Buzzer. This is where we can stop in and remind you of the incredible troll job that the producers did with the Golden Buzzer fake-out last week. They made it seem like Hough was actually going to use it — they even had a dancer close out the show! — but in the end, the contestant actually pressed the buzzer for themselves. It was one of the funnier moments within the history of the show and it’s the sort of thing that makes a standard audition stand out a little more.
After the auditions, the Judge Cuts will begin! The network has yet to confirm the lineup of guest judges, but we’re sure that it will be a mixture of familiar stars and NBC network names. We’ve got Kenan Thompson (of the upcoming Bring the Funny) on our wishlist, though we’d watch him on anything because he’s one of our favorites.
