Yellowstone season 3 promotes a familiar face to series regular

Yellowstone season 3

Yellowstone season 3 is still far in the future, but it’s coming together so much faster than you would think! For starters, filming is already underway and we’ve already heard about another new addition — Lost alum Josh Holloway. Any time a Lost star is coming aboard your show you know you are bringing that amazing legacy along with them and we are excited to see what Holloway brings to the show.

For today’s update, we’re honing in more on a promotion for someone who is already there. According to Deadline, Denim Richards (who has recurred on the series since the first season as Colby) is now a series regular. That means more of him as a rancher … and it also means that someone isn’t killing him off between now and the finale. That’s the real value in getting to hear about some of these promotions so far in advance; it shapes the smallest bit of the story so you know what to prepare for.

If you’re wanting a full-time gig as an actor, Yellowstone feels like a pretty good place to call home. It’s one of the most popular summer series on all about basic cable, as it draws millions of viewers throughout the week in a number of viewing measurements. It also allows you to explore a different genre than almost anything else on television — there are elements of a traditional Western here, but then you add in parts of a primetime soap and a crime thriller. It’s almost what happens when Gunsmoke has a baby with Dallas and then The Sopranos. It’s going to give you an opportunity to do a lot of different stuff — and also be out on location and explore a scenic part of the country.

So while we know that Colby is going to make it to season 3, this doesn’t mean that the character will breathe easy for the rest of the season. There’s a lot of crazy stuff that could be coming still. Be prepared for some of that come next week — Yellowstone is not on tomorrow night due to its proximity to the July 4 holiday. Because the show is so strong for Paramount Network, they don’t want to roll the dice and lose some viewers to hot dogs, burgers and BBQ when they don’t have to.
