The Loudest Voice episode 2 preview: Becoming #1, taking on CNN
(One of the things we’re curious about with this show is still this — what will the audience for this be? Are non-Fox News viewers too disgusted to watch, and are actual Fox News viewers going to be interested in this? It feels like the sort of show that doesn’t have a precise angle and we’re still exploring some of what that could be.
The Loudest Voice episode 2 carries with it the title of “2001,” and you can see the official synopsis for it now below:
Fox News Channel is on the cusp of passing CNN to become the number one rated news network when 9/11 changes everything; horrified by this terrorist attack, Roger begins pushing the news with an agenda and finally puts Fox on top of the ratings race.
What this episode is going to do is offer you an opportunity to explore a little bit of the turning point for the network, one where the folks at Fox decided what they wanted to be and how they were going to bring their power to the next level. It’s not exactly going to be a universally-loved network, but they find themselves an angle and push for it. What we expect through this series is a chance to see power-grabs on the part of Ailes, controversies, and a number of deals that he is willing to take on in order to get where he wants to go. It’s a fading away of a traditional news organization and, instead, a move more into news commentary. It seems like, for whatever reason, those two terms blend together too much today and viewers mistake what they see in primetime as cable news for a legitimate fact. Ailes is one of the pioneers of that.
