Claws season 3 episode 5 preview: Niecy Nash directs!

What’s coming up on Claws season 3 episode 5? There are a number of exciting moments ahead, but let’s start things off with news that is separate from the show itself. “Zaddy Was a Rolling Stone” marks the directorial debut of series star Niecy Nash! This time around, the actress decided that she wanted to expand her portfolio and take on a different sort of challenge.

Desna (Niecy Nash) and Dean’s (Harold Perrineau) world turns sideways when an unexpected relative appears from their past. Things take an even more unexpected twist when the Lovestones retaliate against Desna for getting in their way.

Entering this episode, what is interesting is that Desna claims that she is going to be taking a step back. Yet, if there’s one thing that we know about her already, it’s this — she’s probably not going to be able to do this for long. Desna is the sort of person who is almost addicted to her own ambition. She’s going to be interested in continuing to do whatever she can in order to get a step ahead, no matter what she’s doing and no matter what the cost of it is. She’s not going to let Mac and Melba win … but they’re going to keep doing whatever they can to try and stay ahead.

Expect Claws season 3 to remain about a battle for power, and the longer it goes, the more desperate everyone is going to become. The main point of intrigue, and what makes this episode stand out, is likely getting an opportunity to see who this newcomer is in Desna’s life and what sort of seismic impact they end up having on the show as a whole.
