Outlander notes: Season 5 filming; cast talk Sam Heughan honor
If you recall, just two days ago Sam was receiving an honorary degree from the University of Stirling. Just one day removed, he was back on set having to be Jamie Fraser. He noted in interviews on Thursday that he’d been given the day off to go get the degree, and he wasn’t joking when it was just one day. Caitriona Balfe noted on Friday that she had a little bit of break, as Sam was in the process of filming instead. Maybe it wasn’t for the full day, but at least Caitriona got a chance to enjoy some Scottish sunshine!
Things have been active on the set of Outlander as of late; Tim Downie (Tryon) was also recently filming outdoors, and recounted a scene where he and a duck were at war with each other as he tried to get out one of his lines. The cast has been outdoors more as of late, but they have found a way to mostly insulate themselves from both onlookers and spoiler-hunters. We’ll see if that lasts for the remainder of filming.
More congratulations on Sam’s honor
To go along with the fact that Sam is now an honorary doctor, both Balfe and Maria Doyle Kennedy (Jocasta) each took to Twitter to give him a good-natured ribbing. Is he “Dr.” Heughan now? This does feel like the sort of thing people will yell at him here or there in jest, but Sam’s too humble a guy to start making some demands. It’s all lighthearted fun, and the entire cast looks proud of him for everything he’s done — not just in terms of acting, but in charity work and legitimately trying to make this crazy world a much better place to inhabit.
Outlander season 5 will premiere on Starz most likely in 2020. It’s a long wait, but we’ll do our part to help ensure it’s a worthwhile one!
