MacGyver season 4: Henry Ian Cusick set to play new character Russ

MacGyver

MacGyver season 4 just got that much more exciting — anything with Henry Ian Cusick in it is exciting. As an unabashed supporter of Lost and all things Desmond, we’d watch Henry in just about anything. We already watch MacGyver, so we consider this news a win-win.

According to a new report from Deadline, Cusick is going to be a series regular and will play Russ, a new lead opposite Lucas Till’s Angus MacGyver. He’s described as a “handsome and quick-witted Oxford-educated ex-Military who is a master manipulator and salesman – skilled in propaganda and lie detection with an extremely high emotional intelligence. A very wealthy man, he’s used to getting his way and not beyond enjoying the spoils of war: expensive suits, fast cars, private jets, house in Monte Carlo.”

The obvious comparisons are going to be made between this character and George Eads’ Jack, largely because they are two men around the same age with a military background. However, Jack wasn’t exactly rolling in cash — Russ feels almost like a secret agent with his penchant for the finer things in life. (Side note: Anytime that we hear about a rich guy named Russ our brain automatically goes to Russ from Silicon Valley, with the doors-that-go-like-this and his status in the three-comma club.)

Will Henry Ian Cusickbe leaving The 100?Check out what we know.

Cusick is joining a cast that includes Till, Tristin Mays, Meredith Eaton, Justin Hires, and relative newcomer Levy Tran. She first appeared midway through season 3 as Desi, a new bodyguard for Mac who tried her best to think of the job as only that. However, the longer the season went on, the more that changed. Desi was welcomed with open arms and she’s gotten closer to the team over time. We imagine that this will eventually be the same with Russ. No team is better than the Phoenix Foundation team at welcoming you with open arms.

The bad news about this casting is just how long you have to wait to actually see Henry Ian Cusick on-screen. MacGyver season 4 is not premiering until midseason, which could be at some point in early 2020 or a little later in the spring. There are currently thirteen episodes and that gives CBS some flexibility to air the show whenever they want. No matter what time they choose, this gives MacGyver that extra punch of awesomeness. We were excited already, but this helps to push it over the top.
