NCIS season 17 spotlight: The future for Ellie Bishop

What should we expect for Ellie Bishop entering NCIS season 17? There are a number of different roads the story could go down, but let’s just start things off with some excitement. This is the most psyched we have been for a Bishop arc since Emily Wickersham first came on board the show, and there are several different reasons for.

Let’s kick things off here with the obvious top priority: Ziva. We understand that Cote de Pablo’s character actually paid a visit to Gibbs rather than Bishop at the end of season 16, but that doesn’t take away from the connection that Bishop and Ziva formed through “She.” Even though keeping the secret was hard, we still saw Ellie do her part in order to do so since she valued Ziva’s trust. Watching these two characters interact should be fun — while they have some clear differences, both of them care about their jobs and are passionate about helping people. There’s a lot that Bishop could still learn from Ziva and we hope that they have at least a few minutes in the premiere together — if not then, than some other place down the road.

What about some of Bishop’s background? Earlier on in the series, we got a chance to learn a little bit more about where Ellie comes from and some of her early life. It was such a different speed and attitude than what we’ve seen from her in DC — because of that, we’d love to see that explored a little bit more. Can we go back to Oklahoma and experience that life a little bit more? We love it when NCIS dives deep into backstory — it’s one of the reasons why “Once Upon a Tim” is one of the best episodes from this past season of the show.

What can we learn about Bishop and Torres? There are a lot of people out there rooting for these characters to get together and in all honesty, we get it. They have a fantastic chemistry and back-and-forth; also, it seems like there are feelings there. This doesn’t need to be an issue that is explored immediately in season 17, but it would prove useful to at least have some discussions in regards to where things stand between the two.

Can we just see Bishop and McGee at the sci-fi convention this season? Let their geek flags fly! One of the things that we like about having Bishop on the team is that she gives McGee such a close friend who he has a lot in common with. We think that there has to be some sort of story where the two could go undercover at a convention; it may just not happen because NCIS may not want to put forward the time to get a lot of unlicensed characters in cosplay.
