Fear the Walking Dead season 5 episode 5 preview: Althea’s pursuit

The character of Althea’s been missing in action here and there on Fear the Walking Dead season 5, but it’s not for any scandalous reason. Instead, it’s mostly just because the writers have had some plans for how they wanted to give the character a spotlight of her own. This could be coming on season 5 episode 5 next week, a story that carries with it the title of “The End of Everything.” Within this hour, you will have an opportunity to explore further what she’s up to, what exactly she’s seeking, and what could be coming her way on the other side of all of her hard work.

Of course, it’s certainly possible that this thing waiting for her is death. When you spend a good bit of your time pursuing something that you construe to be the truth, there are going to be people on the other side of it who want you dead. It may be frustrating, but Althea probably knows this already. It’s the cost of her doing business in trying to figure out what really is out there.

We’ve maintained through much of season 5 so far that there is something going on with these characters beyond what we know — an unseen threat, or a specific struggle that they could all be stuck to face off against in one form or another. There are a lot of fascinating moments and things we anticipate seeing through the end of the first half of the season, but we wouldn’t be shocked if the real enemy the group is facing isn’t revealed until we get a little closer to the midseason finale.

For Althea in general, we still think that we’ve yet to see her full purpose explored on this show. Many of her videos haven’t quite panned out to be something more than research and/or documented things for a future generation of people. While that may be changing before the story comes to a close, we’re at a place still where she’s been one of the larger enigmas in terms of purpose. She did accomplish one big thing already this season — it’s because of her recording that Strand was able to realize that Daniel Salazar was out there, and could still be an asset for the group.
