Grand Hotel episode 2 promo: Secrets, blackmail, and steam

Grand Hotel episode 2 on Monday night is probably one of the most important episodes of the entire series. This is, after all, when we imagine that most people will make their firm decisions on whether or not to watch! The subject matter within “Smokeshow” has to be a direct continuation of the pilot, at least in terms of offering up a lot of crazy, interesting directions for the story to go down. We already know that there is darkness within these hotel walls, and there’s about to be so much more.

As a matter of fact, the promo below seems to acknowledge just about every awesome primetime soap trope you would want in a show like this. Take, for example, blackmail in order to keep a few secrets under wraps. Then, there’s also a pregnancy storyline, an illicit relationship, a character flinging all of their stuff off of their desk, and a threat that the entire hotel could shut down once and for all. We don’t think Grand Hotel necessarily exists to try and break the mold for what a show like this can be.

Instead, we think that its existence is based a little bit more on entertainment and offering up something that can become a summer addiction — something that just takes you out of your world for an hour a day. We do think that there’s a lot of potential for this show to keep moving forward in an exciting direction and so long as there are great characters at its core, its audience could grow. It’s going to have a chance given that Grand Hotel is airing after The Bachelorette — really, it’s one of the best lead-ins that it could possibly hope to have, considering what time of the year that it is airing.

Given that this promo is for the entirety of the rest of the season, it’s hard to isolate what moments are going to be featured in episode 2 and what are being held on until later. We feel like the pregnancy plot is one that is going to unfold a little bit sooner than some others, while the blackmail feels like something that span much of the entire season. That’s a hard thing to really get out from under after things start to spiral out in that particular direction.
