Outlander star Sam Heughan pays visit to Buckingham Palace
In a post on Instagram (see HERE), Sam confirms that he was a part of hosting an event this week at Buckingham Palace featuring students and performers from the Conservatoire. The event (put on via a partnership with The Prince’s Trust) was attended by a number of distinguished guests, including none other than the Prince of Wales. Prince Charles is a notable patron for the Conservatoire, and it’s been quite the week for him — we know that he also spent some time meeting Daniel Craig recently on the set of the latest James Bond film.
Performing at Buckingham Palace in front of the Prince is a tremendous honor, and it seems to be one that neither Sam nor the students are taking for granted. It’s about putting on a fantastic show, but also working to preserve the arts in the United Kingdom and beyond. Outlander has allowed Sam to have a greater platform, and as a result of that, he is now able to use that platform to speak for many important causes — with arts education being near the top of the list. Without this, it would be harder to find some of the next great entertainers, and people who can then use platforms of their own to speak towards other great causes.
The year of Sam continues
Just think about some of the incredible things that Heughan has accomplished this year, whether it be honorary degree announcements (including one from the University of Glasgow’s Dumfries campus as well as the University of Stirling), the My Peak Challenge gala, meeting Prince Charles at the Conservatoire itself, and of course filming Outlander season 5. That’s without even considering some of his movie work or the upcoming launch of his Great Glen Company whisky. This feels like one of those years that, after the fact, you look back on with one of the biggest smiles imaginable.
Cheers to Sam, and we have to imagine more great stuff is coming.
