Lindsay Lohan’s Beach Club canceled by MTV after one season
According to a report from Page Six, MTV is opting to move away from the show after a single season on the air. A source close to production does claim that there were some discussions about bringing the show back — yet, it didn’t end up coming to pass for a wide array of reasons:
“There was a renewal idea that producers hoped would perk it up for a second season … It would be turned into a show about Lindsay and [her mother] Dina and [sister] Ali, [but] that wasn’t going to happen … [The powers-that-be] wanted ‘breakdowns.’ That’s not where [Lohan] is at with her life anymore. Their personal business doesn’t need to be aired on television; it’s already in the papers anyway.”
Ultimately, it seems like the show was canceled for a myriad of different reasons. For starters, the ratings for the first season left a lot to be desired. Meanwhile, the reviews for the show were pretty cold from the start, with it lacking much of the drama and some of the “cast members/employees” turned out to not provide anywhere near the splash that the show probably hoped that they would. There just weren’t any real stars who really came out of the operation.
What’s a little bit crazier about this whole story is that Lohan’s beach club, as a whole, doesn’t exactly seem to be operational anymore … at least on Mykonos. Despite it being a destination for most of the first season, it seems as though this club is no more and Lohan is moving on instead. This entire show was an attempt for her to move somewhat back in public life; however, it didn’t end up producing some of the results that she clearly expected that it would.
MTV isn’t really hard up on content elsewhere. Their revival of The Hills is starting soon featuring a number of classic former cast members; meanwhile, they also have new seasons of Jersey Shore Family Vacation and Floribama Shore coming up soon alongside some other competition shows like Are You the One? and Double Shot at Love — which this season had a decidedly Jersey Shore feel to it thanks to Vinny and Pauly D getting to be the stars. They’re going to be just fine, but we have a feeling that we’re going to properly see Lohan do the same. At this point in her life, she probably doesn’t need some sort of show to feel special.
