The Bachelorette: Jed Wyatt reportedly had girlfriend before season

The latest The Bachelorette scandal has officially arrived, and this one has nothing to do with what happened on the show itself. Instead, it’s all about musician Jed Wyatt, who openly admitted to Hannah Brown that his original motivation for coming on the show was for his career.

Now, a bombshell report has come out via People Magazine claiming that Jed was dating a musician named Haley Stevens leading up to him being on the show. Based on what Haley told the publication, this is almost a tale as old as time for this franchise:

“We spent the night together the night before he headed to L.A. … He told me [the show] was just an obstacle and we’d be stronger on the other side because of it.”

Stevens knew during the relationship (which started after he applied for the show) that he planned to be a part of it, but claims she was led to believe that it wasn’t something that he wasn’t planning to be involved in after the fact:

“He told me [early on] that he had applied … He said, ‘It’s probably not going to happen, but it’s a huge opportunity. I’m only doing this for my music.’ He only did it for his career … He wanted a platform. He kept telling me, ‘I don’t want my dad to have to help me pay rent anymore.’ He said he only wanted to be top five … to be a major player so that it would be beneficial.”

There is evidence of Stevens and Wyatt’s relationship through old Instagram posts, which does lend a good bit of credibility to her story. Granted, how much all of this matters is really just dependent on what happens the rest of the season. If Jed ends up being eliminated, this isn’t going to be all that big of a deal; however, if he ends up getting engaged to Hannah at the end, that’s a problem. Think about it like this — there was apparently another woman out there who was waiting for him to come home following the competition. She claims that she had a confrontation with Jed after the fact, and he basically shut down any conversation.

We’ll see what Jed comes out and says after the fact, but this is not good — especially when Hannah basically asked people who were pulling stuff like this to go home night one. Remember that she sent another guy home the very first day for having a girlfriend back home. He tried to deny it, and if Stevens’ story turns out to be legitimate, it’s possible that this also could have happened to him.
