Tommy Bracco is one of the more notable contestants on Big Brother 21, and he is also entering with a history of performing. After all, the guy’s been a part of a couple of major Broadway shows!

As Tommy revealed to Jeff Schroeder during his pre-game interview on Monday morning, some of his early credits include Newsies as well as the musical version of Pretty Woman. It’s an incredible achievement for him to be a part of two major companies, and he actually drew some comparisons between the game and doing a show in the early going. When you first join a musical, you do out-of-town tryouts where you test the material and you’re separate from most of the world. Because of that, the cast becomes your family and Big Brother is the same way!
Going from Broadway to Big Brother is an interesting career move, but we do think that it could be a fruitful one. If Tommy is extremely popular in the house this season, it feels like the sort of thing that could get him cast in future shows by people who are interested in selling some tickets. Tommy is already a reasonably big name within the theater world with more than 30,000 Instagram followers — plus a verified badge! He’s one of the more notable contestants and he understands the entertainment business (even if Broadway and Big Brother are obviously different).
So why bring someone like Tommy on board this show, given that he’s already got a certain level of fame? We’ve talked about this here and there, but it’s probably so that CBS has someone they can count on who understand what they’re looking for in terms of entertainment. They like returning players sometimes because there’s an element of stability — even with the best casting people around, you can’t guarantee what you’re going to get out of “normal” people who have never been on camera. Tommy’s well-known enough to have some fans out there, but he’s no so well-known that people are going to know everything about him in advance.
Could Tommy win?
We think so. He’s going to be social enough, and while he’s willing to be cutthroat, we’re not sure that he has a super-malicious bone in his body. We can’t see him being diabolical and stabbing people in the back in a really cruel way s if he can work out good jury management (which we think is actually the most important part of the game) then he’ll be in a good spot.
